Bronze, Silver and Gold Award programmes for SHSB pupils.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
At Southend High School for Boys, students in Year 10 have the opportunity to undertake the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, one of the UK’s most respected youth achievement programmes.
The Award encourages students to develop independence, resilience and teamwork through four key sections: Volunteering, Physical Activity, Skills and Expedition.
While students take responsibility for organising and completing their volunteering, physical and skills activities, SHSB provides training and support throughout the programme, including preparation for the expedition section. The experience challenges students to step beyond the classroom, develop valuable life skills and gain a nationally recognised award that is highly regarded by universities and employers. Above all, the DofE at SHSB promotes confidence, self-reliance and a spirit of adventure, helping students grow into capable and well-rounded young adults.
