Initial Teacher Training

Teacher training in partnership with Tes Institute

Southend High School for Boys is a partner school for BTSA, which provides high-quality primary and secondary teacher training across more than 50 placement schools in South Essex and Southend-on-Sea. Working in partnership with Tes Institute, BTSA combines the supportive feel of a close school partnership with the reach and quality of a national training provider.

Our programme is carefully structured to maximise time in the classroom and is available across a wide range of subjects. We use evidence-informed approaches based on current educational research, alongside guidance from experienced classroom practitioners and regional leaders. Trainees gain varied experience across placements and develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to thrive in the classroom.

Entry requirements for the fee-funded ITT route
  • GCSE grade C / Grade 4 in Maths and English (primary trainees also require Science GCSE)
  • A degree at classification 2:2 or above. If teaching secondary, a large proportion of your degree (usually a minimum of 50%) should be in the subject you wish to teach
