Beyond the classroom
At SHSB we offer a wide range of enrichment activities, from exciting day trips, residentials, debating competitions, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, School productions, concerts and many sporting activities and competitions.
Our extra-curricular clubs are many and varied. We encourage pupils to join at least one activity when they start school — it is an excellent way to make new friends.

The house system is a longstanding and important part of life at Southend High School for Boys, having been established in 1908. Every student belongs to one of four houses—Athens, Sparta, Troy or Tuscany—which compete throughout the year in a wide range of academic, sporting, creative and charitable activities.
