Drama at Southend High School for Boys develops confident, creative and reflective performers who are able to communicate ideas, emotions and stories through performance. The curriculum encourages students to explore theatre as both an art form and a means of understanding human experience. Drama at SHSB explores empathy, team building and personal growth, as well as exploring the theatre industry in its entirety.

Students develop practical performance skills, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking while exploring a wide range of theatrical styles, practitioners and performance traditions. Through rehearsal, performance and evaluation, students learn to communicate effectively, work as part of a team and respond thoughtfully to the ideas of others.

The curriculum is designed to develop increasingly sophisticated understanding of theatre-making. Students progress from foundational performance skills at Key Stage 3 to the creation, performance and analysis of theatre at GCSE and A Level.
