The Geography curriculum at Southend High School for Boys.
Geography
Geography helps students understand the complex relationship between people, places and environments. The curriculum develops understanding of the physical and human processes that shape our world while encouraging students to think critically about contemporary global challenges.
Students investigate some of the most significant issues facing society today, including climate change, sustainability, urbanisation, development and globalisation.

In the classroom
Students experience Geography through the study of diverse places, people and environments at local, national and global scales. Fieldwork plays a central role throughout the curriculum and enables students to investigate geographical questions first-hand.
Students explore questions such as: Why do places change? How do people shape environments? What causes inequality? How can societies respond to climate change? What is sustainable development?
Year by year
Students build foundations for GCSE Geography through increasingly sophisticated geographical enquiry.
How pupils are assessed
Assessment includes fieldwork investigations, data analysis, extended writing, decision-making exercises and examination questions.
